No, I don't have a blog. No, I don't want one. And no, I don't do social networking. | | | No - no time | Jul 16, 2009 |
As the previous poster wrote, there should be the option "NO".
I already spend too much time sitting in front of the computer, social networking / blogging is NOT my idea of leisure. | | | Sandra Petch Local time: 03:32 francouzština -> angličtina + ...

Yes, I have a blog related to translation and languages http://www.polyglot-blog.com
It is mainly a collection of links and resources that translators might be interested in, such as translator training, associations, conferences, jobs, online glossaries, etc. It is very much work in progress and I intend to include much more information over time and try to keep it up to date.

Once, I had a couple of hourse free and I started a blog, I found it extremely boring, and I do not even remember the link, the password and why I did it!
Social networking, my profile is on facebook, but I haven't logged on for about 6 months!
I have no time, and if I have some, I spend it outside with my children and my friends.
my only social networking is here. | | | Αlban SHPΑTΑ Spojené státy americké Člen (2008) angličtina -> albánština + ...

As most of the previous answers and I think it is a waste of time. | | | Yes, but NOT about translation | Jul 16, 2009 |
I think it’s vital for freelancers to have some hobby or interest outside translation, otherwise the kind of work we do can take over completely. My own interest is photography. I’ve recently set up a daily photo blog which requires me to take a little time out even on the busiest days (like today) both to take/edit pictures and to update the site.

I only use webmail because I hate the obsequiously smug "look what I did for you without being asked" Outlook application.
A couple of years ago, Yahoo notified me that I had a free blog space if I wanted it, I think it was on "My Yahoo" or something like that. Anyway, all I ever did was hang a couple of photos and scribble a few personal musings, rather like people used to do with diaries, but I'm no Samuel Pepys... so no, I don't really have one, nowadays I can put any photos or idle wi... In general, I agree that it is largely a waste of time. Although political, agit-blogging is probably a positive force for truth, or at least an accomplished stirrer of wasp's nests (please feel free to correct my punctuation/apostrophe use), If I'm going to get carpal tunnel or translator's elbow, I'd rather get it from working, not pontificating, sniping or trolling etc etc...

I started one last year, and my idea is for it to be more of an informative source, both for myself and other colleagues. I like to use it to learn things from experts and from other colleagues, who may have different ideas about how things are/should be done in this industry.
Because I started it as a bilingual (English-Spanish) blog, which requires a lot of personal time, I don't post so many articles, and the last one I published, another chat with an industry expert,

turned out quite long, so right now I have absolutely no time to translate it, so I included a link to a Spanish version of it using the Google MT tool (this is probably blasmephy to some people, but hey, it is a rather practical solution when you have no time for doing the translation yourself).

No, but I will have one | Jul 16, 2009 |
After a few years I've had several specific "loose" web pages within my domain, without one common point of entry, I'm building a professional (translation) web site.
As the software I'm using - Incomedia's WebSite X5 - allows it, I will have a blog there, but it will probably be the last part I'll develop. | | | Anthony Baldwin Spojené státy americké Local time: 21:32 portugalština -> angličtina + ...

http://altlatina.blogspot.com is specifically about rock en español.
http://photodharma.livejournal.com is about my art & photography.
The newsblog at http://www.baldwinsoftware.com is specifically about my free/open source software developments.
http://linguasos.blogspot.com is specifically for developments with Linguas OS, Gnu/Linux for translators, of which I am the creator and lead developer.
I've started a few others, but decided to concentrate my blogging efforts on the above.
I also do social networking on facebook, myspace, orkut, twitter, etc.
I find that such networking IS beneficial to my business at various levels.
Just having links back to my site on so many other sites, for instance, boosts my search rankings, which is why new clients find me before other companies that have been in the region for 20 years before I even started in the industry.
I've done a much better job of online marketing, search engine optimization, networking, etc.
I have an excellent online presence and am easy to find.
Oddly, despite having all these blogs and social networks, and a busy work schedule, I spend plenty of time away from the computer, at the beach, roller skating, hiking, annoying the neighbors, etc. ▲ Collapse | | | Anthony Baldwin Spojené státy americké Local time: 21:32 portugalština -> angličtina + ...
