Agencies: Tough application process equals little work?

My experience with revision & proofreading mostly consists of proofreading jobs I'd been given and the clients ALWAYS demanded I explain in detail every single little thing I changed. They probably employ this strategy to prevent overzealous wanna-be proofreaders from butchering the translation for no good reason. And in most cases I am very specifically told not to change the style to better match my personal preferences. Well I guess I'm exceptionally lucky with my clients.
