HI all,

I received a collaboration offer. All I need to do is do this copy adaptation test, with 4 headlines + 4 body copies, for each one expected to provide 6 solutions, plus the back translation. As there is no mention of a fee, I assume they want me to do it free of charge.. How do I raise this issue, without sounding too suspicious? A test is a fine thing to do, but I thought they might test my skills with one headline, not an entire campaign (did I mention it is a brand new product we're talking about)? What if they say, ok, thank you for the fun, let s wait for a new occasion to collaborate etc. and then I see the commercial (done by me) and 1. don't get paid or 2. don't have any copyright protected? Do you chrage for copy tests? If yes, do you do it per hour? I really would like to do this job, it's a great opportunity, but do a whole campaign out of enthusiasm only doesn't seem very professional to me...

Thank you so much for your advice

send them a message saying 'my rate for such a project is $/£XXX, please confirm that you agree to this rate'.

If this is a whole advertising campaign for a new product, then it is not reasonable to expect you to do it for free; and if their business practices are such that they are trying this trick, they wouldn't be people I would want to work for anyway.

As for charging for such work, I imagine it must be per hour - the word counts are so small, and the amount of wo

one headline? Jul 25, 2006

Hi Angela!

Thank you so much for your feedback. I think I'll just propose to do one headline for free, don't know if a body copy in addition would be exaggerated...

A fee scale? Or a lumpsum? Jul 25, 2006

Oh and I forget: do you always charge per hour, or maybe, lets say, a headline = 300 EUR, simply body copy: 400-500 EUR, etc.? How about agreeing upon a lump sum per project?
