Can anyone tell me the "rules" for translating in Canada?

I'm a translator in the U.S. but a client has asked me to translate a document for Immigration Canada.

I'm not sure if my translation will be accepted because I'm not certified by any Canadian body.

Thanks,

Scott Britton

Canadian English vs American English Jul 14, 2006

Hi,

Canadian English and American English are different.
Canadian English is a mix of American and British English.
The rules are not that straightforward.
Moreover, translating for the Canadian government is a bit special. They have their own style, which sounds... Canadian, meaning not American.
I just wanted to point out that there are differences.

Scott,

Even within Canada there are differences. Not every government agency accepts the same type of document. We encourage our clients to check first with the respective agency and have the requirements clearly spelled out. Better safe than sorry!
