Dear colleagues,

I have this client who requires me to fill review sheets that contain segment ID, source, translation, correction/feedback columns. All of them have to be filled manually (i.e. copy-pasting from a CAT tool) and it can require time as much as the review itself. I have asked for an extra fee but the client refused it, saying it's for everyone's good including me, as in the future hopefully there are less mistakes made and my review job will be easier. What you are required to do is so called "documented edit", and it is very time consuming, indeed. I always charge such work by the hour. I can usually give a pretty accurate estimate up front, as I have been doing these reviews for years, so I know how much I can get done in an hour.
In general, if your client is not willing to pay your rate for your work, don't accept the work.

they are not a charity right? it's up to you to decide whether to do something pro bono, not them

this is a classic bullying tactic

if it's that important they can pay for it
