When I'm flooded with work I wish I had some free time. But on the rare occasion when there is little or no work, I often need to remind myself to use my free time wisely, rather than just spend countless hours surfing the internet while waiting for the next job to materialize. I still have some things to wrap up for tomorrow and a big project in progress for next week, but what the..., you have inspired me Time to go out!

This just happened to me.

I was wondering how the rest of my week would go when I finished my current jobs, and then it came: an offer that seemed like a whole lot of fun, with a client without a particularly impending deadline.

It took me about 15 minutes to go through the file and ensure that everything was in order, and not 30 seconds after I responded to the email, I was told the job had been assigned to someone else.

I liked Andrej's comment in particular. Any client who can't wait a few minutes for a translator to actually see the file and respond is doing something wrong. And any client firing job requests out to multiple people at a time is treating translation like a cheap contest. ▲ Collapse
