It's most certainly something I would do if quiet periods would turn out to be a little too quiet. It's actually point number 1 on my to-do list in my virtual emergency plan that's luckily still gathering virtual dust on my desk.

I've faced the fact that business will be slow. I got used to being contacted directly and I haven’t marketed my services for a long time because over the years I’ve managed to build a good base of loyal and regular customers. This isn’t my first quiet period and things will get better soon as economy runs in cycles.

...though I prefer browsing LinkedIn posts from potential direct clients with certain keywords nowadays. Actually landed a couple of direct clients by simply pointing out (nicely!) that the German version of their website which they were promoting on LI was indeed not properly translated. Pointing out all the blatant Machinese really seems to convince people that yes, we are still out there and relevant.
