Anybody who would seriously consider it would likely just have AI read them instead and provide a nice summary. Why bother?
Books written by AI, then translated by AI only to be read by AI. What a great contribution to humanity!

I see with my young teenager grandkids that they not only use AI and spend a lot of time playing or at least using their smart phones but they also dare use AI, DeepL and the like, I don't know, for translation. They are convinced that that robot can even pronounce sentences in my mother tongue, besides providing absolutely correct translation into Hungarian. As to spending a lot of time and attention on the phones is not the result of a totally bad upbringing - when younger, the parents forbade them to play games, off- or on-line, then limited them seriously, so this is the result of peer pressure as young guys from other families urge them on at school. And there's the problem: they find school boring, they have no vision for their future at all - some should be there, at least something they like or at school, but no, the only thing they like is the friends. And some friends are already seriously flawed in this regard. And they, although had enjoyed me reading out to them long ago, and then reading themselves, have practically stopped reading any books.
When I was still active as an English teacher, about 18 years ago a 15-year-old simply walked up to me and said why learn EN? When he finishes school, he'll be in his father's business and will be well-to-do enough to employ translators and interpreters. He didn't think at all about the question of how he will be able to trust those people or check them without speaking the foreign language, he was convinced he doesn't need anything so no learning EN.
There you are. These are some of the problems. So yes, although I answered negatively, I think language teaching should address these problems, and the sooner the better because the present trend will lead to a total refusal to learning languages, or even anything at all. And then we will only have AI translated books, whether we like it or not.

Reading AI translated novels is...
As painful as shooting yourself in the foot.
To me, anything AI translated into Spanish is extremely difficult to read, because usually gender/pronouns are wrong, verbs are strange/odd, vocabulary isn't common, and phrases/sayings are lost.
This is because most likely anything AI translated into Spanish will use the European variant, which isn't the variant with the most speakers at all.

I once used machine translation and AI to translate a story book from a language that I did not speak. I used Google Translate, ChatGPT and Mistral. I was unsure how the author would respond if he found out that I had done that, but I met him at a conference and told him, and he was happy that I was able to enjoy his book.

Wait, if he writes in a language that you do not speak, then how did you tell him that you used AI translation? Using Google/ChatGPT?

on an piece of writing on a subject that in itself is fascinating – how a mish-mash of inorganic molecules came to organise themselves step by step into a 'conscious' entity (a.k.a. homo sapiens).
All the facts in there were well worth reading about - BUT it was spoiled by the style of writing - it was ATROCIOUS.
All grammatically correct, not a single misspelling or punctuation errors, nicely packaged in sections and paragraphs - but it STILL felt like the verba... I've read many dry and coldly factual academic texts but THAT was something else. Reminded me a little too much of the characteristic 'style of writing' favoured by various AIs.
Well, if I say it sounded horribly 'artificial' that would have to be expected if coming from something called 'artificial'?
The best joke? It was signed by ('written by' would be a stretch too far, I think) by a 'renowned academic'. Better things to do than getting into a scrap with Carter-Ruck & Co, so no names!
