Automatic translation will/has become the norm.

Human translation, however, has been around for, what, 10,000 years and will continue to be the highest form of translation, ever.

I despise the fact that we have to modify "translation" with "human"...

Language is a body created by humans, people, a collective – not a buzzing, whirring bunch of electronic models and switchboards.

I could write more on this, but I actually have to wurk wurk wur

Disappearing... Sep 15, 2025

I’d rather see this poll vanish than human translators.

It would suffice to look at some of the rubbish that AI spews out to be sure that human translation is not going to disappear…

Who proposed the poll has little experience Sep 15, 2025

Human translation from scratch will disappear (or rather has already disappeared) - yes, but only for repetitive content and/or content where quality has little importance, e.g. where the reader only needs to understand what is said.
For all other content where quality is paramount, human translation will count as it always did.

And an increasing proportion of that "repetitive content and/or content where quality has little importance" is now being generated by AI, not authored by human writers, so there's little or no justification for paying human beings to translate it.

I agree, all the social media "content" (actually garbage) infested with biased and hate speech will be created and translated by AI as it's done now.

Premium reading, such as enjoyable literature or technical information that needs more than 2 minutes of attention, will **must** be written and translated by humans because, as I see it, in order for AI/LLM to create long, lyrical stories or accurate, localized informative text, it will need too much electrical power and won't be profitable for anybody.

No. Sep 15, 2025

I am a believer that there will be traditional translations and translators that want to only use technology to clarify doubts, but they will continue doing the main job. There are many disciplines that still need human touch, sensitivity and creativity to not only translate a text but also create a new version of itself.

My impression Sep 16, 2025

It seems that some of the polls on ProZ.com are now more about stirring fear and negative feelings among translators than offering a clear picture of the industry.
I'm sorry, but my impression is these polls are more like sensationalist journalism than balanced discussion.

'Disappear' Sep 16, 2025

Who cares about quality? Everybody! But when they have to pay for it? Nobody! So, as long as we are not faster and cheaper then AI, traditional translation will disappear.

Be realistic, it already has started.

The world needs both automatic and human translations Sep 16, 2025

Imagine a world without machine translation, where the volume of content doubles every two years. Translators alone would never be able to keep up with the growing demand.

We provide reliable, high-quality translations to successful companies that value accountability and have no difficulty paying for professional services. Our fees remain modest when compared with the assurance of quality and legal responsibility that our work provides.

Automatic and human translations. Is there a real difference nowadays? Sep 16, 2025

I still get jobs, but a bit different as they used to be.

Most of them are in principle meant as 'normal translations', but most agencies translate them first with DeepL or Google translate (5 minutes work), and send them to their translators as a MTPE job = for 50% of the price for the same amount of work.

Behold our near future.
