More than 20 years... Sep 14, 2025

I have been translating for over 40 years: a few years part-time as a complement to my income until 1986, followed by 20 years as staff translator and then I have been freelancing since 2006…

just few projects Sep 14, 2025

I translated just few projects, one 800 eur worth and the other 60 eur. And the beauty is that i can see my work in local supermarkets!

More than 3 years. Sep 14, 2025

I have mainly worked as a language trainer and essentially translated for non-profits. I love translation, even though it is not my main job and is not currently profitable for me. Even though, I have been a great volunteer translator for more than 2 years, I think that it is time to meet direct clients who require my specialized translations.

I'm coming up for 20 years in this profession.

It has been a blessing and I thank my lucky stars that my clients still send me work.

I hope to make it to 40 years, like Maria Teresa! It could even be 60 or more - can you imagine? YES!

30 or 50? Sep 14, 2025

First paid translation almost 50 years ago (1976), full time since 1994. I like the way the question differentiates between 3 and 4 and between 8 and 10 years, but not between 20, 30, 40 or 50 years.

I started in 1993 or 32 years ago Sep 18, 2025

Back in 1993 the usual rate was .08 to .09 per word and .12 per word for rush or weekend work.

In other words, no raise in pay for 32 years!
