I've switched from in-house translator to freelancer, but I've been a translator all my working life.

I used to be an EFL trainer, but gradually morphed into full-time translation around the turn of the century...

I didn't start out my career as a translator. I worked as a secretary during my university studies and after I graduated, I had a lot of different jobs (civil servant, hotel manager, public relations officer, advertising account executive, vocational trainer). I do not regret at all this intricate weaving as it gave me a valuable insight of different areas of business. Translation found me in the late 1980s: part-time for a few years followed by 20 years as full-time staff translator ("retired" ... See more

I had one job that ended five and a half years ago, so that would be my answer.

Unfortunately, that is not among the available options.

Sigh.

I was working in food industry 20 years ago, but decided to quit due to lack of empowerment and incentives.. joined the army shortly afterwards.. got fully empowered with rifles and ammunition and in my new-found authority as drill sergeant to bully young hapless conscripts, but the pay was shit...
After the army I started working as an in-house translator and did that for 10 years till I got fired in 2017, and here I am.
