Culturally offensive
Feb 3, 2025
From Merriam-Webster:
powwow
noun
pow·wow ˈpau̇-ˌwau̇
1: a ceremony or social gathering of North American Indigenous people
2 offensive : a meeting for discussion
"Use of the word powwow to refer generally to a social get-together or to a meeting for discussion is considered to be an offensive appropriation of a term of great cultural importance to Indigenous Americans."

I believe that Proz should retire its use of this term. After all, this is a site for language professionals, and we should be even more attuned to these nuances than those outside of our sphere. ▲ Collapse

On-topic
Feb 3, 2025
With all the previous posts being largely off-topic, I'll take a chance of being on-topic, for a change.
I'd prefer an in-person meeting.

Proz still uses the derogatory term “Nigerian Scammer” when even the World Bank and IMF glossaries have changed it.
It seems changes here take time—a long, long time; just look at the development of the new site. So, changing an offensive term from their site will take ages, IMHO.
