Brave and SearX.
No, I don't use ChatGPT or any other LLMs as a search engine. I still find their answers to be volatile and unreliable. In the niche I specialize in, at least. YMMV.

DuckDuckGo

I have found that DuckDuckGo is the one remaining search engine that is still somewhat useful.

In fact, I am currently "degooglifying" my entire life, with an Android smartphone and Google Maps as the last remnants. I will allow the smartphone to live its life to the fullest, because tossing it prematurely would be wasteful. And Google Maps is, unfortunately, by far the best navigation app out there.
+ Google Scholar, depending on the subject matter...

It's reliable and claims not to use its users' searches for advertising. It seems to be respecting its users' privacy - unlike a certain big company's search engine.

When it comes to translating
Sep 8, 2024
I would use Google first, as it does probably the most comprehensive crawling of the Web and has the most elaborate search operator syntax / search commands. Without the use of search operators, any search is too rudimentary.
For anything else, anything but Google.
If you wonder why, just take any even mildly controversial topic and compare what is served by Google as search results and what by other search engines. Google “Filter Bubble”? No, thanks!
