I don't socialise, I do meet with friends.
I don't exercise, I do ride a bike and play tennis.
I don't self-improve, I do learn interesting new things.

We are linguists here, and from the linguistic point of view, the juxtaposed notions above coincide semantically, but are very different pragmatically.

This is dishearteningly characteristic of the translations I receive for review/proofreading. People don't seem to take the time to work on the details - which is part of our job as translators, especially when we are facing the industry's push for mindless machines taking our work.

Nowadays, my socialising tends to consist of going to other people's homes for lunch or dinner, rather than "going out" per se. I also sometimes cook for friends, for example on Saturday night one of my exes came over for dinner.
