I have been a Proz.com member since 2007 (after much hesitation I finally made my mind up and decided to give the benefit of the doubt to Proz.com and renewed my subscription for another year), but I’ve never applied for the Pro seal, so I have no idea if it gives more chances of getting jobs or not. Over the years I got some good repeat clients through Proz.com, but lately potential clients seem to be more interested in cheap labour than in experience, knowledge and professionalism…

I have never been tempted to apply for the Certified Pro Network. I do not think it would be useful in my case.

Who is asking this question? And who has the data necessary to determine an answer?

The only data point I can offer is that I once mentioned my Certified Pro status (now abandoned) to a potential new client as a professional qualification and they refused to accept it.

Oh, and this one:

- Jobs/clients acquired through ProZ since I cancelled my membership last year: 0
- Jobs/clients acquired through ProZ in the two years before that: 0

I don't know Jun 23, 2024

This can only be answered by those who are in the program.
I can only say that I have got good clients without being part of the CP network.
Since the program is a private and very limited initiative, I don't think it has any significance for external parties.

Maybe agencies who often use Proz to find translators will find it useful.

Otherwise, potential clients who have never heard of this website won't be impressed. It's not like it's anything official. IME clients seem only to want formal qualifications and experience.

I don't use proz primarily to search for clients, but mostly just for the kudoz section and to post the occasional query.

I do have a 'Pro' badge, but I think that it plays zero part in me being approached and/or selected by potential clients, as I believe their searches would focus primarily on approaching translators whose profiles match their requirements, and who can prove they have a sound experience in specific fields. Basically 'pros' in that sense, who know what they are doing.

The Certified Pro Network is a ProZ-centric 'title', unsupported and uncertified by any recognized professional bodies, its members being determined by a debatable process (
https://www.proz.com/forum/poll_discussion/367927-poll_how_important_do_you_think_cpn_is_for_profile_visibility.html ).
So, having that badge attached to one's name and profile doesn't vouch for their professionalism. It's just a badge.
True professionals don't need badges.
