Thank you for this very informative article Jul 9, 2012

This was an eye opener. I knew there were scammers out there, but not how elaborate some of the scams have become. I will be sure to double check and verify future clients. This article should be read by all translators and outsourcers.

A real life example Jul 18, 2012

You can find a real life example of this kind of scams at this thread, where the end client assigned a job to a scammer, who in turn assigned it at a much higher rate, using a different name, to a translator. The scammer got paid and the translator was left unpaid.

In this case both the final client and the translator probably failed to get verifiable and verified contact information from this go-in-between scammer.<

It takes all kinds... Sep 27, 2014

Hi Enrique,

Thanks for this as interesting as enlightening article. On reading it, I realized that, almost a year ago, only because I distrusted a potential client and took every possible step to protect myself was I able to prevent him from getting away with his well-planned fraud.

As a matter of fact, the guy did manage to deceive a company/businessperson he purportedly worked for in Hungary.

Happy translating to all,

Mónica
