...a dongle to the parallel port.

Dear all,

what's happening? I searched the forums and found several such postings but didn't really understand what to do. I had a look at the license manager, but this didn't help, since I have no idea what to do.

The thig is, I really do need to use my workbench, like, now, and I can't. Can anyone please give me clear step-by-step instructions on how to solve this?

(I was thinking about an upgrade to Trados 2009 but with my license files corrupted, this seems senseless. What do you think?)

Many many thanks in advance!

Instructions Dec 7, 2010

Hello Carolin,
first of all, you should consult the manual for the instructions on how to proceed to activate your license.

Second, if you do have a license but this cannot be activated, you are eligible for free support on licensing issues by SDL; raise a support case.

Third, if a license goes corrupt, you can ask SDL to provide you with one more for free. They are usually very understanding in cases like yours.

Fourth, if your license is corrupted,

T2006 license file Dec 7, 2010

I remember that T2006 license file was not a dongle and if your PC was not in trouble, this file should be healthy [a small and simple text file.] You can contact SDL International but they may ignore to support T2006 now.

Thanks. Dec 7, 2010

What I found out is that I obviously have no license installed, so everything runs in demo mode. Funny, isn't it, because I have been working with it for four years now.

I am not sure yet what to do now, so I might just try to get support from SDL although they might not help me with my old license.

So, if I decided on an upgrade for whopping 350 Euros, the upgrade would work despite my not having a valid license installed?

Regards
Carolin

Where is the license file Dec 7, 2010

Don't think so. Get the license issue solved first. You are a client thinking about upgrading, so I'm sure you will get support from SDL.

It seems quite impossible that you used Trados 2006 without limitation if there was no license file of sorts. It's a very small text file, as Soonthon said. Besides, don't you remember buying Trados? If you didn't, how can there be a license file?

There are many options in CAT tools, nowadays. If you want to remain with SDL, look at the starter version.

Reboot the computer, then register Dec 7, 2010

I've found that rebooting solves a lot of problems related to SDL Trados products.

I don't recall the exact steps to register the program on your computer since I don't have 2006 on any of my computers, but something along the lines of Start / Programs / SDL (Trados SDL) / License manager/ Register. This makes sure that the license is recognized on your computer.

Of course I bought it :-) Dec 8, 2010

I sure do remember, and all transactions are registered in the account I have on their homepage. My license must be somewhere; according to the license manager there's a file path of some sort but obviously something went wrong and now it doesn't work any more.

I just wonder why this happens when all these years everything went smoothly.

Now I am trying to solve things via their knowledge base, perhaps that leads me somewhere.

Off topic question: Do you all have the newest versions of everything? Microsoft Office, Trados, operating systems?

@Kevin: Rebooting sounds like a good idea; I've never done that, though.

Find license.lic Dec 8, 2010

Hello Carolin,
if your license is file-based, search your HDD for the license.lic file. Then use the License Manager and point it to the location of the license file.

As regards your possible upgrade, this should be completely independent of your current license. Both Studio 2009 and Trados 2007 (shipped automatically along with Studio) use activation codes instead of a local license file.

And to your OT question: yes and no; I run Office 2007, SDL Trados 2007, an
