The only thing that's worse than a Monday morning deadline is one for Friday COB. I'm always so stressed by the end of the week that the last thing I want to be worried about is rushing to proofread a translation at the end of the day. I would much rather use my week-end to look it over and deliver it at my pace.

I generally prefer morning deadlines to afternoon deadlines for the same reasons that Muriel mentions.
You avoid the stress of having to finish the project for a certain hour in the afternoon and can continue a bit longer if that should be necessary. You then also have the possibility to go over it again or perform a final check early in the morning before delivering the translation.

Since I claim to provide a 24/7 service, I'd be foolish not to....
I find weekend socialising hectic and over-rated, and much prefer doing something worthwhile, with the added bonus of being able to take a break when the job is delivered.
Shopping malls and beaches are quieter during the week too...

I've never understood why clients ask for delivery at the end of Friday afternoon anyway, as invariably they've clocked off early when you do return something. Like the others, I always ask whether first thing Monday would be possible - and it usually is.

....on any number of factors, such as when the job comes in, how big it is, what other work I have on, any firm plans I have made for the weekend, etc. Generally I accept early Monday morning deadlines and try to get the job finished by or over the weekend, so there's no Monday morning rush.

Monday morning is OK. I accept any deadline if it does not require me to translate more than 10 pages a day (approx 250 words per page) for over two consecutive days. I mean I can accept, say, 30 pages for two days, but not 45 pages for three days

In this way you know you are ruining your whole weekend. Parties, walks, outings, visiting a friend, everything canceled.

I do only sometimes. This is because it means I should work during the weekend, and it can be really busy around here. My both children are free from school so they want attention and we always try to go out, take them to shops, games, etc., we visit their grandparents on Sunday, on Saturday there are often meetings or birthday parties where we have to take/pick up the kids, etc. So if I can forecast these events, I normally decline Monday morning deadlines.
Not to mention working for some Peruvian agencies/companies which obviously know that they are sending me the file too late and want to 'force' me to work on weekends. This really makes me upset. Fortunately as a freelancer, I am able to decline jobs. ▲ Collapse

If the client offers a weekend rate, maybe yes. If not, only if I get that job in a week day that allows me to finish it if by friday EOB (but I only deliver it on the deadline agreed).

If I already had plans for the weekend, there's no way I would accept a weekend job that would require more than a couple of hours of my time.
This being said, it's rare that customers offer me weekend assignments which really require weekend work. Usually, a translation that comes in on Friday evening, will be d... Being the night owl that I am, early morning deadlines are fine with me any day of the week. This means I can work in the evening or at night if I want to.
Since I live alone and am basically quite reclusive, working on weekends is also fine with me, so I like early Monday deadlines. If I were a lot younger and had kids I'm sure I'd feel differently about this.
