Not while translating May 2, 2010

but the last quality check I do before delivering a translation is to read it out loud! It works for me...

same here! May 2, 2010

For some unknown reason (at least unknown to me), I need to whisper or mumble while proofreading the text, particularly if the text is extremely difficult/complex. Somehow, it helps me focus on what I'm doing.

A translation needs to be right but must also sound right...

Yes May 2, 2010

I mumble, say yes, say no, say why and where and how.
And hear the sounds.

Only, when I translate movies, and my text will be recorded as voice over. I must know if my dialogs fit to original dialogs.

reading the target text...and when translating video scripts. I have done a couple of them, one recently. It was supposed to be a certain amount of time in length, and I also wanted to make sure it had the right sound. So I read it out loud as if I were narrating the video, making sure it sounded natural. I have to admit I sounded pretty good.

Sometimes, source and target May 2, 2010

If I come across a particularly tricky sentence, I often read it out loud as it helps me to work out what it's trying to say. And I'll read out the target text too, to check that it sounds right....

I'd say yes, but... May 2, 2010

Does using DNS count?

When I'm tired, it helps me focus.
When the source is complex, it helps ensure that I have included all the elements and that they are in the correct order.
When I proofread.

However, I don't do any of the above if there are other people around.

I curse the people who wrote some of the abysmal stuff I get to translate...
