Hallo!

I have a client in Europe who sent me a cheque in EUR to my American address. I was just warned by one of my friends that I might have problems with clearing cheques in EUR in American banks. If you have any experience with clearing EUR cheques in American banks, I would be grateful if you could share.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best wishes,
Sain Alizada

No problem! Jan 25, 2005

Hello kvaloy,

My American bank accepts checks in Euro at no charge. You may have to do some "shopping" aroun'd but there are indeed US banks that take non US-currency checks free of charge.

Good luck,

Guylaine

What bank do you use? Mine can barely handle US dollars, let alone checks in euros.

I think Bank of America cashes them Jan 25, 2005

You'll have to deposit it and let it clear for ages but B of A I seem to remember doing this. Otherwise, call the big international banks and just open an account using the check and wait however long you need to wait. Shouldn't cost you anything but time.

Thank you all very much for sharing your experiences with EUR cheques.
I talked to my bank yesterday and they said they cashed EUR cheques. Takes one week, but this is not a problem.

Hi Sain,
I talked to my bank yesterday and they said they cashed EUR cheques. Takes one week, but this is not a problem.

...did you also check their fees?

Best regards,
Ralf
