In an 1875 issue of a Czech-American newspaper, the explosion of an outlying paper mill was reported. The writer said the explosion was heard from town, "a kratce na vjel do mesta jako sileny jezde volaje, ze papirna vyletela do povetri." I'm having problems getting the sense of the first half of this quote, since I'm not quite sure how "na" fits in what "jezde volaje" actually means in this context. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated!

I used the verb 'enter' because it is generally also used for moving vehicles, animals, etc. It may not find a pleasantly inclined audience but I did like it within the context..........
