Zdrojový text - čeština V jížních Čechách se setkáme nejen s krásnou krajinou pro kterou jsou typické bohaté lesy a četné rybníky ale také s mnoha hezkými hrady a zámky. Velice známý a nejvíc navštěvovaný je zámek Hluboká, postavený ve stylu anglické romantické gotiky. Obdivovat zde můžeme nádherné dřevěné stropy, ale také vzácné sbírky obrazů, porcelánu, skla, zbraní i dalších prací uměleckého řemesla. Nedaleko od Hluboké se nachází zámek Kratochvíle, renezanční letohrádek, obklopený vodním příkopem.

Sehr bekannt und am meisten besucht ist das Schlößchen Hluboka, erbaut im Stil englischer romantischer Gotik. Bewundern können wir hier herrliche Holzdecken, aber auch seltene Bilder, Porzellan, Glas- und Waffensammlungen sowie anderes Kunsthandwerk. Unweit von Hluboka befindet sich das Schlößchen Kratkochvile, ein Renaissance-Schlößchen, umgeben vom einem Wassergraben.

Ani vlastně nevím, kde začít, a někdy, spíš jen žertem, přičítám to všecko na vrub Charleymu Furusethovi. Měl v Mill Valley letní chatu přímo ve stínu hory Tamalpais a nechával ji neobydlenou kromě zimních měsíců, kdy se tam povaloval a četl si Nietzscheho a Schopenhauera, aby dal mozku odpočinout. Když pak přišlo léto, raději se vařil v potu a opékal v horku a v prachu města a mořil se tu v ustavičné dřině. Kdybych byl neměl ve zvyku zajíždět k němu každou sobotu odpoledne a zůstávat u něho až do pondělního rána, nebyl bych se onoho kritického lednového pondělka plavil po Zálivu San Franciska. Cestoval jsem ovšem na plavidle naprosto bezpečném, neboť Martinez byl nový převozní parník a konal teprve svou čtvrtou nebo pátou plavbu na trati mezi Sausalitem a San Franciskem. Nebezpečí vytvářela hustá mlha, jež zahalovala záliv a které jsem se já, jako suchozemec, bál jen pramálo. Naopak, pamatuji se na poklidné potěšení, s nímž jsem zaujal výhodné místo na přídi horní paluby, rovnou pod kapitánovou kabinou, a s radostí jsem pustil svou obraznost napospas tajemné říši mlhy. Vál svěží větřík a nějakou chvíli jsem byl v té provlhlé neviditelnosti sám — a přec ne sám, neboť jsem si matně uvědomoval blízkost lodivoda a druhého muže, v němž jsem tušil kapitána, v zasklené kabině přímo nade mnou.

Ich reiste natürlich auf Wasserfahrzeugen absolut sicher, denn die Martinez war der neue Fährdampfer und begann erst seine vierte oder fünfte Fahrt auf der Strecke zwischen Sausalito und San Francisco. Eine Gefahr stellte der dichte Nebel dar, welcher die Bay verbarg und vor welchem ich mich als Landbewohner nur blutwenig fürchtete. Im Gegenteil, ich erinnere mich an die gemächliche Freude, mit welcher ich einen passenden Platz am Bug des Oberdecks bezog, direkt unter der Kapitänskabine, und mit Freude ließ ich meine Fantasie auf Gnade und Ungnade ins heimliche Reich des Nebels los. Ein Wall frischer Brise und eine Weile lang war ich in dieser durchfeuchteten Unsichtbarkeit alleine - und doch nicht alleine, sondern mir ist undeutlich die Nähe des Lotsen und des anderen Mannes bewusst geworden, in welchem ich den Kapitän vermutete, in der verglasten Kabine direkt über mir.

Zdrojový text - angličtina Alfred the Great was born between the years 847 and 849 in Wantage in what is now Oxfordshire. He died on 26 October 899. Alfred was the fourth son of King Ethelwulf of Wessex and became king of the southern Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex in 871, when his brother Ethelred I died. Alfred is famous for his defence of the kingdom against the Danes, who were also known as the Vikings. He is the only English monarch to be known as "the Great". He was the first King of Wessex to call himself "King of England". Alfred was an educated man who encouraged education and improved the kingdom's law system.
Public life
Nothing is known about what Alfred did during the short reigns of his two eldest brothers, but when his third brother, Ethelred, became king in 866, Alfred became active in public life. In particular, he worked hard to free England from the influence of the Danes, and Alfred was appointed as Ethelred's successor. In 868 Alfred tried unsuccessfully to relieve the middle England kingdom of Mercia from Danish influence. For nearly two years after that, though, the Danes did not attack Alfred's native Wessex. At the end of 870 this changed, and this period became known as "Alfred's year of battles". Wessex fought nine battles in 870 and 871, some of which were won, some lost. In April 871 Ethelred died, and Alfred became king. The Danes then defeated the English in a battle, whilst Alfred was away burying his brother, the old king. The English were then beaten again under Alfred's command in May.
