Zdrojový text - angličtina In the 19th Century, Balakirev, Borodin, Mussorgsky, Cui and Rimsky-Korsakov —the so called Group of Five— gave birth in Russia to the musical nationalist movement, which quickly spread through Europe. For countries outside the mainstream German, Italian and French traditions, the nationalist movement became a means to create a legitimate place in the international scene. However, nationalist music had a tendency to anchor itself in the mere superficial use of folkloric material for the sake of remaining nationalist. Only the great composers made the nationalisms evolve, like Stravinsky in The Rite of Spring, by means of creating folkloric-like material instead of quoting it; touching the essence of a culture, instead of just photographing it.

Zdrojový text - angličtina Galina Ivanovna Ustvolskaya was born in Petrograd (nowadays Saint Petersburg ) in 1919 and still lives in the city. She studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, and among her composition teachers were Georgy Rimsky-Korsakov and Dimitri Shostakovich. Ustvolskaya was one in a string of composers from the Soviet Union who was “discovered” by the West during the period of Glasnost and the eventual breakup of the Soviet Union . Notable international artists such as cellist Mtislav Rostapovich and conductor Valery Gergiev have championed her music. Ustvolskaya writes, “I put all my forces praying to God for my art; I have my art, my music, only me.” She says, “my works are not religious in a liturgical sense, but they are infused with a religious spirit, and to my mind they are best suited to performance in a church, without scholarly introductions and analysis.” Ustvolskaya’s spirituality is a personal one centered on her music. The music of Symphony No. 4 itself is austere, dissonant, and at the same time, meditative.

Ever since I began my career as a freelance translator in 2002, I have not had a single dissatisfied customer. In the past few years I have worked for a number of clients in Russia, USA, and Europe. Before I joined the community of freelancers I worked for about seven years in well-known international companies such as Nestle and Japan Tobacco International. One of my major responsibilities there was translating contracts, business and financial reports, presentations, and other company documentation. It was twenty years ago when I first started studying English, and in 2001 I received an MA in Germanic Philology (majored in English) from the St. Petersburg Institute of Foreign Languages, Russia.
In 2002 my husband and I relocated to Prague, Czech Republic, we lived there for almost five years, which gave me an opportunity to study Czech, and now it is one of my working languages as well. Then we lived in Vienna, Austria, for about three years, and I picked up some German. In summer 2009 we moved back to the United States and currently live in Northern California.
