When translating ingredients or dishes, sometimes the best translation is no translation, because each term honors a place, a people, a history, and an evolution of flavor. It is thus vital to consider the cultural significance of food items, cooking methods, and dining practices, whether you are translating cookbooks, product labels, menus, or websites.
In this presentation, we will look at the uniquely human touch that culinary translation demands, and how it will always make this specialization one of the most exciting.

Did you know there are around 640,000 translators worldwide?*
All of them offer linguistic services. Most of them are on social media. And yet… veeery few of them actually stand out. Every day, I scroll through lots of translators’ profiles, and honestly? They all look pretty much the same. And that’s me saying it, someone who understands the industry and can spot the differences. So, how can clients choose the right professional for them?
Translators aren’t usually marketing experts, and there is an overwhelming number of marketers encouraging the use of AI to build your brand, your digital strategy, and your content. Sure, it’s a useful tool, but some things are better done by humans, just as translation.
In this session, I’ll show you how to build a genuine brand and digital presence, because now that everything is done by machines, being human makes you stand out like white shoes on a rainy day.
This isn’t about becoming an influencer or going viral. It’s about being real in a world that’s becoming increasingly artificial.

Chantal Kamgne, from Localizzz Africa and Engage Africa NLP, and Sheriff Issaka from the African Language Lab, join forces to explore how AI and emerging language technologies can bridge this gap, transforming so-called “low-resourced” languages into high-impact tools for inclusion, education and economic growth.
Drawing on real-world projects from Africa, Canada, and the United States, the presentation will highlight how community-driven data, ethical tech and AI design, and cultural intelligence are reshaping the way technology is built.
They will discuss how tech and AI can help preserving languages, empowering voices, unlocking opportunities, and ensuring that every language, including those that are currently underrepresented, has a place in the shared global digital future.
