Dear All, earlier today I worked with Trados 2011, with no problems. Sometimes I do run Secunia PSI, a program that points out new versions of my program list. Today it found a new version called Oracle's Java 1.7; I authorized corresponding Java's upgrade. And this Java closed all my running programs (MS-Word, Trados 2011, Excel, etc.), and restarted my computer without my permission. And this Java closed all my running programs (MS-Word, Trados 2011, Excel, etc.), and restarted my computer without my permission. After that, I tried to restart Trados 2011, but my Windows 7 Ultimate Program Manager pointed Trados as "No responding". I shot down Trados using Program Manager, restarted my computer again, but this Trados "No responding" problem persisted. I tried to start Trados 2009, but the same problem. So, I suspected that the great villain could be that Java. So, I uninstalled this Java version, and both Trados 2009 and Trados 2011 worked OK. Lesson learned: DO NOT INSTALL JAVA 1.7, OR YOUR WORK GET STOPPED ! ==========================================

Lesson learned: DO NOT INSTALL JAVA 1.7, OR YOUR WORK GET STOPPED ! ========================================== As long as I remember, the Trados programmers and, especially, the Multiterm ones never managed to make work smoothly their software with Java versions other than the version provided with the software. I.e.: - AFAIR their setup routines were never able to force the setup of the Java version expected by Trados/Multiterm.
- even if the correct version was installed manually, some modules could not be initialized, e.g. Multiterm Extract always failed if the Java version was higher than expected (to be honest, I didn't test it with MTE 2011 but I doubt they did well their job).
- the Java upgrade was always a Russian roulette game.
I.e. for minor upgrades kinda 1.5.0_xx to 1.5.0_yy, it could work (sometimes after some settings modding) but a major upgrade kinda 1.x to 1.y was often lethal.
I can't really say it's a good practice to use old/obsolete runtime versions but it's the only easy way to maintain working Trados. I have no time to perform test which should have be done at SDL, so I even didn't try to install Java 1.7 on my Trados machines. You just confirmed my thoughts... BTW, Java 1.7 is available from July 2011 i.e. before Studio 2011 was released, the Java 1.6 end of development is planned for February 2013... no comments... Cheers GG

I always let it update and never had any problems. I use Studio 2011 too. | | | Giles Watson 意大利 Local time: 09:27 Italian意大利语译成English英语 纪念 | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Java 1.7 x TRADOS 2009/2011 - Enemies!!
