As you may know, the Proz Plus membership entitles you to get a free copy of the IATE in the language combinations that you need: https://www.proz.com/forum/prozcom_translator_coop/315434-new_plus_package_benefit_free_download_of_henk_sandersons_iate_terminology_packages-page6.html It would be nice if the downloading of these packages could be managed directly from CafeTran Espresso ... (It looks like there's not much life in TM Town left.) Here are some thoughts about how to prepare your downloaded packages for CafeTran Espresso. I'm referring to the files that have been prepared for CTE by Henk (stored in IATE_CafeTran_xx_yy.zip): - You might want to merge the files IATE_CafeTran_de_abb_nl.csv, IATE_CafeTran_de_nl.csv, IATE_CafeTranTM_de_nl.csv to have all term pairs in one file.
- You might want to remove the columns B, C and D in MS Excel or OpenOffice Calc.
- Perhaps you want to fix incorrect encodings, using a regular expression like [^A-zäüöÄÜÖßËëïàèÉéáóíîêûúÅăâãçčđęłñøșšśćŠțŽ€æœåžαελωΣΔ∆ΠχγρµηΩφσ\t\r\(\)\*0-9₂₃²³°;:\s\-‑+=≡×,%\/.·∙·•'‚‘’"„“”®$\?\!&…#] (Note that this expression needs to be adjusted to your language combination!)
- By all means, remove the full stops before the semicolons and tab characters, to enable CafeTran to recognise the source terms!
- In CafeTran Espresso, run Glossary > Merge alternative translations to combine related terms. Note that this only makes sense when you have removed the columns B, C and D ...

If you want to go the extra mile to correct misspellings or outdated 'encoding' like Ae, Oe, Ue, ae, oe, ue, ss for Ä, Ö, Ü, ä, ö, ü, ß (see also: https://tinyurl.com/y7q257lw ), you could use this super useful feature that is situated in the QA menu, whereas mere mortals would look for it in the Task menu: Firstly, you have to create an equals sign-delimited list of 'corrections': No sweat, this will only take you a day or two of your life ... Note that you have to add a unique character (e.g. ÿ for my language combination) to delimited all words, since CafeTran Espresso currently doesn't respect word boundaries when using The Great Feature mentioned above. You can use a spreadsheet software and a good Unicode editor to prepare the correction (conversion). Load the term records to correct in the spreadsheet software. Create a spreadsheet file with one column. Import it in CafeTran Espresso and copy all sources to the target side. On the targets, run the QA (that actually should be a Task) feature. On The Third Day (that the God of CTE created this feature), you'll get your copy of the IATE with the correct spelling that is fit to be used as glossary in CafeTran. Export the project and open the exported spreadsheet file. Replace the original source column with the modified source column, remove the word boundary delimiter (ÿ) and save as a tab-delimited glossary file. | | | Hans Lenting Netherlands Member (2006) German to Dutch TOPIC STARTER There's a feature for that | Jan 4, 2021 |
