... and not unfortunately because of any religious significance in my case (although I go all sloppy over Christmas carols), but because you have to fit your work around spending time visiting relatives/shopping for huge amounts of food/cooking it/home help on holiday so no one to help with the mess we make/nursery also taking extra days off apart from the bank holidays so the kids have to be occupied too... And people wonder why I'm not particularly keen on Christmas. | | | a little bit | Dec 19, 2007 |
I am hoping not to get too much work over Christmas so that I can take at least 2 days off without having to do any work and not feeling guilty about it! It would be different if I had children, as I would definately not take on any work for a few days over Christmas then! Happy Christmas to everyone! | | | It's the most wonderful time of the year... | Dec 19, 2007 |
A Different Kind Of Christmas Sometimes Christmas is just overwhelming, it seems, As we rush around buying up stuff. We spend without end, and we rack up those bills, But it feels like it's never enough. So this Christmas, let's all take a different approach: Let's try to be more in accord With God's Christmas gift, the best one of all-- Our sweet Jesus, our Savior, our Lord. ... See more A Different Kind Of Christmas Sometimes Christmas is just overwhelming, it seems, As we rush around buying up stuff. We spend without end, and we rack up those bills, But it feels like it's never enough. So this Christmas, let's all take a different approach: Let's try to be more in accord With God's Christmas gift, the best one of all-- Our sweet Jesus, our Savior, our Lord. We'll be gentle and patient, and loving and kind, And we'll keep our priorities straight; The gifts of the Spirit, the gifts of the heart Are the ones that we'll all celebrate. And our stress will decrease, and we'll feel more at peace, As we decorate, package, and trim; Our new Christmas will be a pure joy and delight, As we try to be much more like Him. By Joanna Fuchs It's not just like any other time of the year for us either. We have a large job due on January 11th, but we'll skip 24 & 25 and 31 & 1 and spend time with family and friends celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and welcoming the New Year. Merry Xmas and happy New Year! Leticia & Andrés ▲ Collapse | |

If you mean Christmas, it's just like any other day for me except that I now know that my local supermarket will probably be closed and I'll need to stock up on food in advance. If you mean holidays that I celebrate (most of which are several months away), then I'll probably take some time off. | | | Parrot Spania Local time: 14:13 din spaniolă în engleză + ... A client of mine (big boss) puts it this way | Dec 19, 2007 |
Of the 18-20 working days in December, we (in Spain) probably get a total of 14 productive days (discounting office celebrations, meals and all that to-do) in which to achieve a 28-day workload (counting backlogs) and wind up the accounting for the whole 365 days. Somehow these clients have a way of transmitting the weight... | | | How about a simple "no"? | Dec 19, 2007 |
No I won't be working, but there's no "of course not" about it! If I needed the money and someone offered me work over Christmas, I'd be there all right. As it is, I don't and I won't. But I have done in past years. I voted "other." | | | Cecilia Civetta Italia Local time: 14:13 Membru (2003) din italiană în spaniolă + ... Same here: simply "no" | Dec 19, 2007 |
My answer is No. It's not "of course not". Cheers! Cecilia Marie-Hélène Hayles wrote: No I won't be working, but there's no "of course not" about it! As it is, I don't and I won't. But I have done in past years. I voted "other." My thoughts exactly. My holiday has nothing to do with Christmas per se, but more to do with the fact that family and friends are also on vacation, so it is a good time of year to visit, travel, and catch up on sleep, news, fresh air, etc. In any case, it's high time for a break! Best, Jocelyne | | | Another option | Dec 19, 2007 |
Shouldn't there have been another option for people who don't celebrate Christmas, especially as this a world-wide website. | | | Özden Arıkan Germania Local time: 14:13 Utilizator din engleză în turcă + ... An explanation | Dec 19, 2007 |
Shouldn't there have been an explanation about what holiday is meant exactly for people who don't have to know what holiday is celebrated at what part of the world at what time of the year, especially as this is a world-wide website? | | | Muslims are celebrating the Aid el Adha in the coming days | Dec 19, 2007 |
So for once, the question could apply to Christians as well as Muslims. It doesn't happen so often given the different calendars (Hijri and Gregorian). From what I understand, it is also a time for them to meet with family and spend loads of money, and they often have a week off after the sacrifice. A bit like the Christmas period in the western world. Maybe the question was left vague to include a larger part of the community. I don't know about Hindous or Sikhs or Jews. I ans... On December 24th and 25th, I'll be working as my husband's secretary! He's a physiotherapist and a member of a regional team dedicated to the treatment of bronchiolitis, and he's decided to be on call these 2 days. He'll be too busy taking care of the babies to handle the paperwork with the parents, so I'll help him out! Then I'll go back to translation until the end of January (ski holidays!) By the way, I wish you all a happy new year! | | | Claudia Aguero Costa Rica Local time: 06:13 din spaniolă în engleză + ... I'd like not to | Dec 19, 2007 |

I have worked between Christmas and New Year most years, but this year I have a friend from England (where I come from) visiting and we'll be doing some travelling. | | | Număr de pagini: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Will you be working over the holidays?
