BTW: I've spotted a mistake in the English timetable; the first column in "arrivals" is in Polish and says "dzien tygodnia"; it's supposed to mean "day of the week". And, for instance, with arrivals from Amsterdam, 2, 4 & 6 mean Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Well, Proz members surely haven't contributed to the creation of this site...

And, to support his statement: indeed, Katowice is located some 120 km west of Krakow, and both rail and bus connections operate fairly well; for those wishing to rent a car, the thing is even simpler: both cities are linked by a motorway (tollway - the cost is PLN 10 for the whole distance), and the travelling time is ca. 1 hr, if you have a heavy foot on the accelerator
The other airport admits flights form some locations that Krakow doesn't; Dublin, for instance. So, some of you may consider Katowice as a secondary place of arrival.

The other idea would be to fly to London and then book a connecting flight www.easyjet.com for London Luton, www.centralwings.com or www.britishairways.com for London Gatwick or www.skyeurope.com for London Stansted.
Other connections to Cracow outside of Europe may be foud on the homepage of the airport in Balice (link allready mntioned above).
Before you go to your travel agent for quite, first check, which airport in Europe, convenient for you, is connected with Cracow or Katowice via a low cost carrier. This could save you a lot of money. But I mean London or perhaps Berlin or Amsterdam could be the most interesting of them.

Beside the entire city, which is very interesting to see, you may be interested in seeing some special points in Cracow, as for example the kings castle Wawel or the near salt mine in Wieliczka. Further there is a german concentrations camp in Auschwitz and the jewish district Kazimierz in Cracow.

Before I knew about the conference I wanted to learn a language, which is not that much spoken by German speakers. (Just for fun)
I found Yiddish very attractive and found an online source.
But then I felt the need to learn a bit of Polish for being polite in Kraków.:-)
Now I have read that there must be quite a people (in Kazimierz?) speaking Yiddish. Serendipity!

I am planning to attend the conference and have started looking into travel options. We're not spoilt for choice here in Riga, but LOT seem to have quite a reasonable offer, with the option of taking a connecting flight to Krakow.
Then again, Polish trains are wonderful, so I'd much prefer to take the train from Warsaw.
Am I right in thinking that the journey takes around 2.5 hours? Is the cost around 70 - 120 PLN?

This is probably the wrong forum but I'm not sure where else to ask this question
I went to the Hotel System web site to book a room for the conference and after filling in all the details got a message that I'd be contacted by a member of staff within 24 hours. When I didn't here from them, I sent an e-mail to the reservations e-mail address. That was yesterday morning. Still nothing. So I don't know if they have reserved the room I requested, whether I have to pa... See more Hi,

Pretty much the same.
I wanted to get some info before I make a reservation, but after I didn't get any reply (I e-mailed them 3 days ago), I made an on-line reservation, though 24 hours expires only tonight.
