Dear friends,
I am determined to come to Oxford, but I cannot decide on what airport it is better to land (Luton or Gatwick, Heathrow is not an option unfortunately) and what would be the fastest and most economic way to go from the airport to Oxford.
Can you help please?
See you in Oxford.

Hi Dan,
Gatwick is better, IMHO (shorter travel time). Please see
http://www.nationalexpress.com/neh.cfm?Step=1
You can catch a bus from Gatwick airport to Oxford, direct, travel time ca. 1h55' - 2h15', price ca. GBP 25 for a return ticket (may vary, it depends on travel days.. I have entered 11/26 - 11/29.

From Luton you have to change bus either in London, Milton Keynes or at Heathrow Airport, travel time varying from 2h50' up to 5h15' according to departure time, price for a return ticket GBP 24 (may vary).
Giuliana
P.S. If you register and buy a ticket online, you can choose the e-ticket option, if you have a printer. ▲ Collapse | | | Brigith Guimarães Portugalsko Local time: 21:25 Člen (2003) angličtina -> portugalština + ... Thank you, Jacqueline | Sep 3, 2004 |

Hi Brigith,
There's a half-hourly (every 20 mins at peak hours) coach service from Heathrow run by Oxford Express from the bus station at Heathrow Airport. You will find more information about this at www.nationalexpress.com.
HTH
Best regards,
Jacqueline
Apologies for my silence in getting back, Jacqueline, but I've been on vacation and just came back.
Thanks for the tip and hope to meet you there

Hi Jean-Marie,
Gloucester Green will be best, it is the last stop and right in the city center. From there you will have to take a bus up Banbury Road or Woodstock Road.

Sylvie, there is a very good bus service from London to Oxford, it runs every 10 mins during the day. You can get on at Marble Arch - there are some other stops as well in London.
http://www.oxfordtube.com - you can look up all the info you need and even buy tickets online if you prefer - although I think there is no real need.

I'll be taking Ryanair from Valencia into Stansted. I'll be getting in at 12:00. It looks like the train may be the most convenient although you need to take the tube over to Paddington Station.

Hi Edward, well it depends on where you are staying. Feel free to email me under [email protected] with the details. I live in Oxford so I should be able to give you some advice.

I am considering driving to Oxford from Bonn, using the channel tunnel as I prefer not to rely upon British Public Transport.. anyone interested in coming with me and sharing the costs should get in touch asap.

Hi all,
When I registered, I had a lot of doubts in my mind. But thanks to all the participants, my questions were answered even before I asked! Now I will be taking a bus from Heathrow to Oxford and expect to reach there sometime in the afternoon.
I am yet to book my hotel. I would like to have a single room with attached bath. Does anyone have a recommendation for a budget hotel close to the venue? Thanks in advance!

I'm driving over from Norwich, Laura, but only for the Saturday. I'd be more than willing to share the ride though (I thought I'd park & ride). Let me know if you're interested. Jane. | | | Hi, right place to get off the bus | Nov 18, 2004 |

Useful website with online city maps: http://www.streetmap.co.uk
You can search by street name, post code, etc... and zoom in/out to get the better detail or overview.
The bus station (Gloucester Road) is very close to the city center, the High Street is right in the center and most bus routes pass through it.
Your accomodation is at some distance, a long walk or a short bus/taxi ride from the city center.
The Park & Ride parkings are at the edge of the urban area, very convenient only for the participants who travel with their car. They can take a free bus into Oxford without having to worry about parking in the busy city center.
I could not find anything in Oxford called St Clements.
bye
