Source text - Ukrainian - Я ще з Новгорода посилав своїх слiв, - вiдповiв Володимир, -
пропонував тобi бути моєю жоною...
- Ти глузуєш з мене, княже, - суворо промовила Рогнедь. - Тодi я
вiдмовила твоїм слам, а тiльки-но, ти вже чув, прокляла годину, коли так
зробила... Те, що було, минуло, те, що робиться зараз, ой, яке все це
страшне, княже. Проте я говорю, жду твого слова, бо хочу, щоб нам з тобою
було добре...
- Нам i буде добре! Ти - справедлива, смiлива, хороша! Я, чуєш,
Рогнедь, також буду справедливим, хорошим, добрим з тобою...
Вiн пiшов уперед, усе ближче й ближче до неї, обхопив її стан руками...
- Хороша моя... Чудова!!! - зривались у нього слова.
- Що я роблю! Боги! - промовила вона, рвучко пiдняла руки й обняла його
за шию. Вiн поцiлував її раз, i другий, i третiй, вона вiдповiдала
несмiливим, якимсь шукаючим поцiлунком.
Це була, либонь, остання краплина, що наповнила серце Рогнедi.
Володимир сiв на ложе, вона стала перед ним на колiна, - так велiв древнiй
покон, - i роззула його.
А тодi Володимир схилився до Рогнедi, взяв її дужими руками, посадив на
ложе, довгим поцiлунком подякував за муки й страждання.
- Рогнедь - добре iм'я, - владно сказав вiн, - але я волiв би називати
тебе руським iм'ям - Рогнiдою. Чи дозволиш, Рогнiдо?
О любов - перша в життi, неповторна, принадна! Ти як квiтка, що
розпустилася вночi i, свiжа, запашна, яскрава, здригається вiд важких
крапель роси, повна живодайних сокiв, тремтить у млосному сподiваннi й
напрузi, вiддав нектар, усю таємничу силу чудовому метелику,
трудiвницi-бджолi й цiлує теплу щоку, яка схилилась над нею.

- We will have it! Thou are veracious, courageous, and good! I, thou see, Rogned, will eke be veracious, courageous, and good with thee…
He went ahead, more hither and hither to her, folded her stature in his arms…
- My woman… My dear!!!- words escaped his lips.
- What am I doing? My Lord! – she uttered, rose her hands apace and folded his neck. He lipped her once and once again and once again, she responded with timid some wistful kiss.
For a certainty, it was the last straw, filled her Rogneda`s heart.
Volodymur sat on the bed, she kneeled to him, - as it was bidden by the age-old custom,- and took off his shoes.
And then Volodymur bowed down to Rogneda, took her with strong hands, sat her on the bed, blessed her for throes and sufferance with long kiss.
- Rogned is a good name, - he said imperiously ,- but I`d rather call thee Russ name – Rogneda. Will thou allow me, Rognida?
O, love – the first- ever, only-begotten and alluring. Thou are like a flower, which had burgeoned at night, clean, odoriferous, vivid flower, which startles because of hard drops of dew, which is full of life-giving juices, which tremble in faint hope and stress, having given the nectar, all orphic pith to the butterfly, to the worker bee and it lips the warm cheek , bowed down to it.
