centering? The mention of azimuth and distance suggests topography to me, and I found an article at the link below which mentions "calagem" in relation to leveling a theolodite:

"Observa-se o deslocamento da bolha no nível esférico e realiza-se a centragem ou calagem do mesmo (figura 6.39)."

This would suggest that "calagem" refers to "centering", but I'm not clear how that fits into the phrase you gave.
