First, you must choose a suitable location. Either a ===>>longeing pen with 6 foot panel sides or a sectioned off area is acceptable. If you are longeing in an outdoor area, make sure the area is large enough to longe in comfortably and that it is free from distractions and loud noises. You may want to section off the area with barrels or some other visual mark-off, so your horse gets the idea that he is to stay within that marked area.

Discussion
All lunge lessons should take place in an enclosed area and the surface should be level with good footing. Do not lunge too close to walls or fences as this may disturb the horse's balance and gait.
