plant protection products

... is the translation I most often use.

I've never found a convincing one-word equivalent ("pesticides" covers many, but obviously not all, such preparations) but would be interested to hear from anyone who has.

Cheers,

neutral Giles Watson : Only if the word is used in the less frequent sense of "herbal medicines". The first definition of "fitofarmaci" in the monolingual Zingarelli, for instance, is chemicals for treating crops, etc.

Crop protection chemicals

Unwieldy, I admit - but this seems to be the best hold all term - if you don't like this, then you either have to use the much vaguer agrochemicals or be more specific as to what you are trying to kill - herbicides/pesticides/fungicides, etc.

e.g.

http://www.unido.org/en/doc/3747
2nd International Conference on Crop Protection Chemicals - Present Developments and Future Prospects into the next Millenium

as a coda, I note that

Attraverso questa sezione vengono rese disponibili le informazioni sui fitofarmaci
(prodotti fitosanitari registrati presso il Ministero della Sanità),

so to be pedantically correct, one should perhaps add government-approved crop protection chemicals.

Phytochemicals are actually something else - plant-derived compounds for ingestion by humans that have no nutrient value, but are beneficial to health/prevent disease.
