Greek term
χρονοαπόσταση
Greek to English
Tech/Engineering
Transport / Transportation / Shipping
rail transport
Λόγω του ότι η σύντμηση της χρονοαπόστασης της σιδ/κής μεταφοράς είναι λιγότερο σημαντική στην περίπτωση των εμπορευμάτων απ' ότι στην περίπτωση των επιβατών ...
I've been looking at this word χρονοαπόσταση too long and find it ambiguous.
Does it have a clear meaning here?

journey time / travel time
I hesitate to disagree with Nick, but I don't think that distance is the issue here. απόσταση can refer to a separation in time, not only distance, and I think this is what is meant here. As far as I know, English doesn't have a neat word like χρονοαπόσταση that would work in this context, so I suggest something simpler.
Note from asker:
Τhank you. This seems likely, on the face of it: χρονοαπόσταση μεταξύ πόλεων: I would use "travel time" for that. Unfortunately, I also find χρονοαπόσταση μεταξύ λεωφορείων / διαδοχικών συρμών - you'd think they'd make it clear, wouldn't you, if they meant it in this sense here? ... but some doubt lingers! |

Comment: "Thank you, Philip. Journey time(s) / travel time(s) is fine for the context. I have no strong grounds for believing it means anything else!"
22 hrs
delivery time
It means the actual time it would take the means of trasnportation (in this case the train) to transport from point a to point B I am certain that this is what it means in this context...
+1
23 mins
distance and time
Or "time and distance" but the former is more accurate.
reducing the travel / trip distance and time it takes

To make matters worse, you should consider this:
Εκείνο όμως που θα αυξηθεί σημαντικότατα θα είναι η χρονοαπόσταση (ο ελάχιστος χρόνος δηλαδή που επιτρέπεται να παρέλθει για τη διέλευση δύο διαδοχικών συρμών).

In this case the translation used elsewhere is 'headway'.

Otherwise, Philip's 'travel time' would do fine.

ah, headway. I'm only concerned with making headway with this translation. Thank you for your additional comments. |
