English term

(half) barometrically

English to Polish Tech/Engineering Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng Caustic Soda Evaporation Plant
Section: Vapour Condensate System.
The condensate from the shell side of the evaporator and surface condenser are led to the vapour condensate tank. From there, it is fed by pump to the battery limit. The surface condenser is erected half barometrically above the vapour condensate collection tank. The vapour condensate tank operates under vacuum.

Mam również problem z terminem "barometrically" w poniższym zdaniu:
The level in the vapour condensate tank is controlled and kept constant to ensure that the condensate lines coming from the surface condenser are always barometrically immersed.

Z góry dziękuję za pomoc.

Discussion

Barometrically immersed = wypełnione cieczą do pełnej wysokości rury barometrycznej.

Another solution is to place the mixing condenser barometrically high, i.e. about 11 meter above the pump. The water will run into a well from where it is pumped away, either to a cooling tower or to a natural water reservoir.

Surface condensers
According to their design, surface condensers belong to the indirect heat exchangers.
They are mostly designed as tubular heat exchangers (fig. 5-33). Coiled-tube
and double-tube heat exchangers as well as irrigation coolers are manufactured as
condensers, too. With this design e.g. in the case of distillation, the pure condensate accrues separately from the liquid refrigerant. The condensate can drain automatically via a barometric downpipe (see section 5.6.3).

Coolants and condensate come down and leave the condenser continuously e.g. via a barometric downpipe.

If possible, condensers should be installed barometrically, because then the condensate
or the condensate with the cooling water can drain automatically over the downpipe
(fig. 5-36). If owing to the insufficient chamber height a barometrical installation
is not possible, the evacuation mainly of smaller quantities and with discontinuous
operation may occur over collecting vessels under vacuum. It is also possible
to perform a continuous discharge at low heights by using intermediate vessels and
special pump layouts (fig.5-37).
With the condenser being installed barometrically, the required height of the liquid
column in the downpipe depends on the pressure prevailing in the condenser
(fig. 5-36). The height of the liquid column is calculated acc. to equation (5-6).

Figure 5-36. Barometric installation for co-condensation [5.9]

Since due to the draining water a pressure loss occurs in the downpipes and part
of the non-condensing gases is swept away owing to the flow speed, a safety margin of about 0.50 m should be added to the calculated theoretical height of fall of the liquid.
