I wonder if you consulted a dictionary before posting. Ambtenaren are clerical workers. Kinkel are clodhoppers, clowns. In a different context, it could mean rustics or country boors.

A clod is literally a lump of earth but the word is also used in the sense of a shortened form of clodhopper: a foolish, awkward or clumsy person.

I did consult a dictionary and I came up with 'clerical louts'. But that sounds so strange to me. I have not found the word 'clods' anywhere. But your answer sounds great to me! Tanks a lot! |
