Dutch term

Overzichtsfilm

Dutch to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations Food industry
I have a list of film clips from various companies.

However, a distinction has been made between an educational film clip, a promotional film clip and an 'overzichtsfilm'.

Discussion

Barend van Zadelhoff Jan 31, 2013:
this might mean that you could call these clips either educational, promotional OR "overzichtsfilms"
which, in turn, would imply that 'overzicht' in 'overzichtsfilm' is used in a general sense
that is to say, these clips provide an overview (overzicht) of what is happening, being done there: by watching these clips you will get a general idea of what is happening there

I think I would call this an introductory film clip, but perhaps you have a better idea

I now have my doubts regarding the Dutch wording to be honest. There appears to be no real difference in the film clips. They all show very short clips of the production lines.

Yes You need to watch some. If Kitty is right, "company/product profile" might be a good translation.
Kitty Brussaard Jan 30, 2013:
Agree with Barend The safest approach would be to watch a few of these film clips - at least one from each category - and see what they're about. The 'overzicht' could refer to a 'bedrijfsoverzicht', 'productoverzicht' etc. It's impossible to arrive at the correct translation without further context.
Barend van Zadelhoff Jan 30, 2013:
So what we have is a web page list (1) containing links (2) to short film clips (3)

What's not clear to me is what this list looks like.
Do you find three categories in this list: voorlichting, promotie, overzicht?
Do these links have names?
Have you watched a few of these clips?

It is impossible to be certain if we don't know what these 'overzichtsfilms' do.
They provide an 'overzicht' of what exactly?

Does 'introductory' strike a chord with you?
jads (asker) Jan 30, 2013:
It's for a website page. There is a list of film clips with links to very short film clips showing various food production companies...what they do and demonstrating how the food is produced on the production lines for example.
philgoddard Jan 29, 2013:
Please could we have the Dutch context.
Barend van Zadelhoff Jan 29, 2013:
perhaps 'introductory film clip', it depends on what it actually refers to

General film

Having read your entry and the discussions on the subject, the best idea I can come up with is this.
I understand that some films are educational, some are promotional and the others are general, providing a general overview of how the company works.
You wouldn't want to use 'overview film' as that is not very idiomatic and it's too literal a translation, and if it's a list on a website, you probably wouldn't want something as long as 'film providing a general overview of how the company operates' or anything like that. I really can't think of a much better solution than:
Promotional
Educational
General

in this case.
