Under general conditions for laboratory testing the temperature of a drink from a dispensing machine:

"Se usará un termómetro digital con aguja, **configurado en avance continuo**, y no por pasos"

El termómetro debe ser colocado en el vaso sin tocar las paredes..."

Does this mean that the thermometer is set so that it rises continuously (rather than in steps)? Or am I on completely the wrong track?!
