Description:
"This two-day course is designed for German-to-English financial translators with at least an intermediate knowledge of financial accounting and reporting in Germany. It will examine and discuss the background to/legal and conceptual framework for German annual reports, as well as examining the stylistic and terminological requirements for the different text types involved. These can be classified for convenience’s sake into image/marketing, management, accounting, legal and boilerplate/miscellaneous. Particular emphasis will be put on the primary financial statements and accounting polices, as well as on fast-moving topics such as corporate governance/oversight, remuneration reporting and the macroeconomic environment.
In addition, the course will prove an update on new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) and changes to German GAAP, including new/forthcoming German Accounting Standards (GASs). Textual analysis and translation exercises will be provided, and a terminology clinic held for queries submitted in advance. Lastly, the course will address common project management issues that can impact freelance translators, agencies and clients alike."
