That PayPal prefers to get money you're spending from your checking account as opposed to the credit card, has absolutely nothing to do with the integrity and safety of the system.

However, it does have something to do with the defaulting behaviour of customers: there's enough of cases where X opens an account without depositing anything, gets a card or two pushed over, and then maxes out on them in 24 hours.

So getting your (i.e. their) money from checking account is just sound financial practices. They learn much sooner about another lemon on their hands.
