My home based system has phone-based modem inside it. It's giving problem in the sense, when I try to dial to server's no. thru modem, it shows busy tone and redials the no. again and again. I'm not able to login online because of that for quite a while.
Anyone, who can give a perfect solution?

All connexions busy?
Jul 28, 2005
I remember, years ago, when I had a dial-up phone modem, I couldn't always connect because my ISP had too few lines available for the huge number of users it had.
This is probably what is happening: there are just too many people who are connected at the moment, all lines are busy. Keep on trying, you might get lucky!
This situation is rather annoying though

Hi,
Dial ups usually has such problems dure to various reasons:
1. The number you are dialing is busy, since many people try to connect to a central modem which has restrictions on the number of connections and stuff.
2. You Phone line has disturbances and is not a clear line
3. There is a phone call coming on your number
I suggest that you service you phone line and also deactivate all incoming calls while you are connected. This should help a little. ... See more

But is it really busy?
Jul 30, 2005
You said,
it shows busy tone and redials the no. again and again.
The key is knowing if it is really busy. If by "shows" you mean it says that on your screen, then you don't know for certain if it's busy or not.
Your modem software probably has a setting to play the dialing sequence through the speakers. Enable it and listen.
You can also dial the ISP directly through your regular telephone and hear if it picks up the line or is busy. If this works, make sure you have the correct phone number in your modem software or your internect connection settings.
Also, once your modem has a chance to dial, you can pick up your regular phone and listen in. But note that this "extra" phone may not work if (a) it is plugged in to the tephone connector in the modem itself, or (b) you have the type of phone jack that cuts off all the other phones in the house (rare).
