Source text - English A woman was gesturing wildly while reciting a story to her friend, who was sitting beside her.
“And then she was like, ‘yeah, whatever. You’re just a show-off that skips class and has their head in the clouds.’ Awkward, right?”
The man furrowed his brows. “Hold your horses. He’s a shady dude but that’s harsh, even for her. Why would she add fuel to the fire like that?”
“Don’t be silly,” she said, taking a drag from her cigarette before throwing the cigarette on the ground like a rebel without a cause. “She’s just messing with him. Serves him right if you ask me.” She rummaged around in her pocket for another cigarette.
“I thought you were going to quit.”
The reprimand in his voice made her stop in her tracks. “Yeah, piece of cake!” She withdrew her hand and clasped them on her lap.
He put an arm around her shoulders. “You know you can’t kick the bucket before me. I’d be too lonely.”
“Man, you're cheesy, but I love it.”
Translation - Korean 그녀는 옆에 앉은 친구에게 이야기를 죽 늘어놓으며 격렬한 몸짓으로 말하였다.
“걔가 그러면서 뭐라고 한지 알아? ‘ 그래, 어찌 됐든 간에 너는 그저 땡땡이를 일삼고 맨날 멍 때리는 한낱 허세남에 불과해.’ 민망할 거야 그치?”
남자는 눈살을 찌푸렸다.
“잠.. 잠깐만, 그 녀석이 좀 이상하긴 하지만 그건 좀 너무한데? 그 여자애도 좀 그래, 왜 굳이 그렇게 불난 집에 부채질이야?”
“바보 같은 소리 하지 마.” 그녀는 아무 이유 없는 반항아 마냥 담배를 땅에 던지기 전에 마지막으로 한 모금 들이마셨다.
“그냥 그 녀석 골탕 한번 먹인 거지, 그러고도 마땅했어. 꼴좋지 뭐.
그녀는 또다시 담배를 꺼내기 위해 주머니를 뒤적거렸다.
“담배 끊는다고 하지 않았어?”
남자의 질책 섞인 목소리에 그녀의 손은 갈 곳을 잃었다.
“그럼! 당연하지, 식은 죽 먹기야.” 그녀는 하는 수 없이 손을 다시 빼서 가만히 무릎을 쥐었다.
남자는 팔을 둘러 그녀의 어깨에 둘렀다.
“너는 나보다 일찍 죽으면 절대 안 되는 거 알지? 그러면 내가 무척 외로워질 거야.”
“이봐, 넌 너무 느끼해, 근데 난 그런 점이 좋더라.”
