Bio

- academic papers (12 years' professional experience)
- new media culture (Internet, telephony)

Born in the UK of Dutch parents, I am fully bilingual.

I am a sworn translator with over twenty years' experience of translation from Dutch to English, most recently a period of six years heading up the translation/correction department of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. My own academic background was in the sciences, and though I came to translation indirectly I instinctively adhere to the strict standards expected in this field. This has frequently proved invaluable to the translation and correction of academic texts.

Being also a musician and theatremaker, I am also very alive to the nuances and contexts that accompany every text. Who wants to say what, and to whom? Software translation tools are a useful aid, but are no replacement for first-hand knowledge of the field - and an alert, questioning, consciencious mind. Experience makes the difference!
