Iridium 33 was a U.S. Iridium communications satellite. It was launched into low Earth orbit from Site 81/23 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 01:36 GMT on 14 September 1997, by a Proton-K carrier rocket with a Block DM-2 upper stage. It was operated in Plane 3 of the Iridium satellite constellation, with an ascending node of 230.9°.
On 10 February 2009, at 16:55 GMT, Kosmos-2251, a retired Strela satellite, collided with Iridium 33, resulting in the destruction of both spacecraft. NASA reported that a large amount of space debris was produced by the collision.

ايريديوم 33 كان قمر اتصالات امريكي. اُطلق الى مدار ارضي منخفض من الموقع 8123 في بايكنور كوزمودروم في الساعة 01:36 بتوقيت جرينتش في يوم 14 سبتمبر عام 1997 باستخدام صاروخ حامل من نوع بروتون-ك و المرحله العلويه بلوك د م-2. و تم تشغيله في المستوى 3 من مجموعة الأقمار الصناعية اريديوم بعقدة تصاعد ˚230.9
في 10 فبراير 2009, عند الساعه 16:55 بتوقيت جرينتش, ارتطم القمر الصناعي الواقف عن العمل كوزموس-2251 من نوع ستريللا, باريديوم 33, متسببا في دمار كلا المركبتين. اوفدت ناسا ان كميه كبيره من بقايا الحطام العالقه بالفضاء نتجت عن هذا الارتطام |
