Russian term

листок (here)

Russian to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Is there a meaning for листок that I'm missing? The woman is dreaming, the telephone wakes her up, and I'm not sure what листок could be referring to.

Discussion

gutbuster Sep 1, 2009:
Judith Hehir Aug 31, 2009:
Could also be a broadside/broadsheet, but how often do you encounter such words?
Angela Greenfield Aug 31, 2009:
Maksym, That's right, but a brochure presupposes a bunch of pages, while the flyer only has one.
Maksym Nevzorov Aug 31, 2009:
With additional context, the "листок" is the same thing as "глянцевый проспект" mentioned above.
Angela Greenfield Aug 31, 2009:
I would normally think that it is a brochure or a booklet of some sort (проспект), but later the author refers to it as листок meaning that there is only 1 page involved. So Judith is right. It must be a flyer.
Judith Hehir Aug 31, 2009:
Has to be a flyer/brochure from a travel agency or something
In that case, she couldn't let go of/part with/put down the glossy brochure or something like that.
Judith Hehir Aug 31, 2009:
Is it an advertisement that she's looking at? Is that where the description comes from?
Deborah Hoffman (asker) Aug 31, 2009:
travel brochure? Later on the husband (Riusha) gives in and says Позвони в турагентство, а?
Deborah Hoffman (asker) Aug 31, 2009:
Deborah Hoffman (asker) Aug 31, 2009:
she is the wife of Riusha In this text the wife (we never know her name) goes in and out of daydreams and reality. This section starts with a description of her and Riusha on vacation, I'll post it next.
Maksym Nevzorov Aug 31, 2009:
Could it be a mirror? is Рюша the same person who picks up the phone?
Angela Greenfield Aug 31, 2009:
yeah, it looks like they talk about a glossy photograph.
Judith Hehir Aug 31, 2009:
what was she doing (besides daydreaming?)... when the phone rang? Was she looking at a picture, reading something?
Tevah_Trans Aug 31, 2009:
is she looking at a photo? Because I would then just say "photo" or "glistening piece of paper".
