withering skin or withered skin - which is better? I wonder if 'ageing' can also be used in this case....

Определений много, и разных. Это же не математика. Возможно, это тот случай, который (если бы редактор поправил мой вариант на Ваш или наоборот) называют "вкусовой правкой".

Владимир, я давала свой ответ независимо от Вашего. В данном случае я согласна, что с грамматической точки зрения maturing больше подходит, чем mature. Но с семантической - нет. Я уже писала, что рассматриваю mature ("зрелая") как синоним к "увядающей". Зрелая кожа уже настолько зрелая, что начала увядать. А maturing - это она только зреть начала :)

Mature vs maturing The choice is up to the ladies, of course, but just as noted, IMHO "maturing" is more appropriate here, as it means that the process is still not finished, and there is a way back (cognates with "увядающей/увядшей")

IMHO Don't know how this sounds from a lady's point of view, but "withering skin" sounds a bit more like a medical diagnosis and not something that should sell a product. "Withered" is probably a mistranslation, as it implies that it (the skin) is already there (even more pessimistic).

Почему я поставила 3 - потому что mature skin - это зрелая кожа, а зрелой, по некоторым русскоязычным источникам, считается кожа в 35-45 лет. И ее еще рано называть увядающей.

Однако в приведенной мной ссылке mature skin называют кожу 50+... И мне это как-то больше по душе, нежели ageing и прочее.

agree Elena Ow-Wing : Да, на mature skin много ссылок. Это звучит лучше, чем aging. Кроме того, многие производители вообще избегают таких определений и используют другие формулировки: anti-aging regenerating night cream.

neutral Vladimir Zakharov : I like how far it is from my suggestion. In any case, just as in case with "withering/withered", "mature" implies the result, and "maturing"—the process, which is more appropriate to the original intent, IMHO

If we're talking product headlines, it needs to be respectful and as optimistic as possible to the prospective buyer (IMHO). "Maturing" skin is quite often used, according to google results, and I guess "withering" is exactly what's meant behind that (long live euphemisms).

saggy skin

It's a way to say "withered" without saying that, but not to avoid the issue the way euphemisms do. "Sagging skin" is another option, but "saggy" is a little bit more gentle, suggesting that there's a tendency to sag, but that the skin is not terribly sagging already.

Also, I would translate "и" as "or" in this case, so that you are not insisting that the potential customer has both problems.
