crab meat pickers

São assim chamadas nos EUA. Elas trabalham em "picking houses" removendo a carne da casca do siri, e outras partes deste crustáceo para a comercialização.

Picked crab meat is also sold commercially, and the canning operations have huge crab picking 'houses' traditionally manned by local women, often the wives of watermen. These women manage to completely remove the meat, sorted into lump, claw, backfin, and the other smaller bits, in less time than the casual crab eater takes just to get into one crab, remove the gills, and pry out the lumps. Today, most picking houses are still usually staffed by women, but they are more often foreign workers with temporary work visas. Inability to get work visas has resulted in shutting down of many picking houses and a loss of markets for watermen in 2009.

Breaux and Daigle is a Louisiana corporation which processes and sells crab meat. Crab meat pickers work at Breaux and Daigle's processing plant separating cooked crab meat from its shell. Prior to January 1, 1984, Breaux and Daigle treated the crab meat pickers as employees for tax purposes. However, in 1984 Breaux and Daigle supplied its crab meat pickers with forms, which they signed, stating that they would thereafter be treated as independent contractors and would be responsible individually for the payment of social security and unemployment taxes.

I suggest you don't use the word "female" since all crabmeat pickers are females anyway. (it sounds redundant).

Você sabe é de coisa, viu, Marlene... :-)
Thanks, Marlene. It's just I'm the type of person who takes (or tries to take) nothing for granted, because basically you never know. :-) But I've taken your suggestion to heart, of course. Much appreciated, really. Thanks again. :)

(female) crabmeat pullers

The product is "pulled crabmeat", or "pulled crab meat". As usual, the parentheses indicate an optional item. Should you judge it relevant that the workers are female, based on the context, you may use it.

In the meantime, check out some recipes below. :-)
