I have emphasized the release of information based upon your final comment about who is being protected. In effect, information practices refers to all policy rules regarding the handling of information.

Also, please note that the term should be entered in the plural -- not singular. One can talk about the practice of doing this or that, but when referring to a set of implemented rules the proper term is practices -- namely, that which is generally performed with regard to a certain body of knowledge, set of activities, etc.

Correction to 2nd note: The phrase \"information practices refers\" should read \"information practices refer\"

the way in which personal information (and not only) is collected and used (or distributed)

Over the past quarter century, government agencies in the United States, Canada, and Europe have studied the manner in which entities collect and use personal information -- their "information practices" -- and the safeguards required to assure those practices are fair and provide adequate privacy protection

agree Roddy Stegemann : Yes, it is more than just the release of information -- simply the handling of information in general.
