Spanish term

despejando

Spanish to English Other Mathematics & Statistics Calculation of coefficient of restitution
A very long time since I studied any mathematics, and I can't find it, although I presume it is pretty obvious if you are familar with these equations.

It's a stand-alone term indicating some kind of calculation.

Unfortunately the doc is ppt so copying the context is going to look a little strange, but here you are fwiw:

"Sustituyendo v2 en la ecuación de cantidad de movimiento:

m 2 v '30,7v '2 m 2 v '2 m 3 v '3

Despejando:
m 2 v 3' m 3 v 3' 1.000 2,5 1.050 2,5
v '2 0,7 0,7 0,39 m / s 1,4 km / h

m 2 (1 1 ) 1.000 2,428

0,7"

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks Helena I'm dreading when my children's maths curriculum overtakes my - faded - memories of the subject!

Factoring?

I don't usually do maths translations but I recently did a translation of 1st year secondary school maths and I found the following website useful.

solving

The usual translation. It not obvious what the algebra is :-(

clearing/isolating/solving the variable

to reflect the variable x = reflejar la variable x (cambiar x por -x)
to clear the variable x = despejar la variable x (mat) / borrar el contenido de la variable x (comp.)
to isolate the variable x = despejar la variable x (dejándola a un sólo lado de la ecuación)
to solve for the variable x = resolver para la variable x (encuentre la solución para x -no para alguna otra variable-, o bien si se da algún valor específico: "solve for x=5": resuelva la ecuación para x=5)
