Spanish term

facultativo

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
¿Hasta que punto participas a la hora de comprar equipos nuevos para el departamento?

No participo mucho. Los facultativos nos preguntan, para tener nuestra opinión, pero la decisión no es nuestra, no la hacemos nosotros los adjuntos directamente...

There seems to be hierarchical difference between "adjunto" (staff physician) and "facultativo". Is anyone familiar with this in Spain, and how would you put it into English. Thank to all!

Muriel Vasconcellos Mar 27, 2009:
regular staff vs. physicians who use the hospital? Perhaps the "facultativos" are the physicians who have hospital privileges but don't make decisions about its management. I've been looking at "hospital privileges," but I haven't found a name for them as a group.

General Practitioners, (Doctors, Physicians, Primary Assistance Physicians)

Martin (There are: Facultativos de asistencia primaria) Which= General practitioners and "asistencia primaria" significa el cuidado inicial que se recibe cuando se va al medico de cabecera, en centros no especializados
Also loosely translated as: Doctors, Physicians, Primary Assistance Physicians

There are also Consejos Facultativos (Which would be the Board of Directors.......)

It would be hard to say more without seeing your surrounding context
I hope this might help a little anyways.......

doctor

I know RC suggested this too, but the context looks like a "verbatim" from a marketing survery for medical products. The language will therefore be coversational, so they would probably just say "The doctors ask us... "
The difference between the different levels/grades is not important if this is indeed the case.
